A Busy Eco Week Coming Up

There are loads of Wellingborough Eco Group activities happening this week! We have five dates for activities coming up, hopefully you can join us?

Community Allotment – Working Parties

And there’s loads more to do at our Community Allotment, the good news is that we can restart our working parties from 29th March 🙂🤞 So if anyone is up for it, we propose that we simply have to do Monday 29th, say 10am until lunchtime(ish) then an Easter egg hunt!

Yes children are invited and Billy will be with Jonathan, but please note the ‘Rule of Six’ so we may not all be working together.

We also could do some building on Saturday afternoon (3rd April) from 1 onwards. There’s two sheds, a fence (posts are done) and a gazebo to do! Any help would be greatly appreciated 😉👍

Find out more on the Community Allotment webpage or on our Community Allotment Facebook group.

Tuesday Tidy Ups with Wellie Wombles

If you would like to do some litter picking during lockdown, you can individually or with members of your bubble; and loads of Wellie Wombles have been! You can join in with this on our Wellie Wombles Facebook Group

To help you, on each and every Tuesday afternoon, we have teamed up with the Victoria Centre and Wellingborough Norse to loan litter pickers, hi-vis, gloves and to give away bags.

It’s a call and collect service that you will need to register for. Find out more about Tuesday Tidy Ups and Wellie Wombles on our webpages.

Repair Club Live – our Fourth Fix

Repair Club Live gives you another way to get your items fixed or to learn new skills. We hold Zoom sessions fortnightly on Tuesday evenings at 7:30. A repairer will aim to fix something live, talking you through what needs doing.

On Tuesday (30th March) Simon will be looking at repairing a member’s iron and a local councillor’s hand held window cleaner. Who knows how he will get on, but hopefully we will have fun and a fix or two in an hour!

Find out more on the Repair Club webpage or on our Repair Club Facebook group.

Saturday ‘Seeds’ Swap Shop

Live on Zoom, our third Wellingborough Eco Group ‘Saturday Swap Shop’ took place on 20th March and it was all about gardening! We were hosted by the Victoria Centre, where we invited you to swap with us and others.

We had a selection of seeds that had been dropped off to swap, these were introduced by hosts Marion Turner-Hawes and Jonathan Hornett. 56 packets of seeds were swapped by between the eight people who joined in, for collection on Tuesday between 1:30 and 5:30pm at the Victoria Centre.

Watch Saturday ‘Seeds’ Swap Shop!

Wellingborough Swap Shop is a free and local exchange where members pass on things they no longer want, in exchange for something they need. You could describe it as a kind of cashless bring-and-buy sale. Participants did not need to bring anything in order to take away goods, and vice versa.

Saturday Swap Shops are managed by Wellingborough Eco Group as part of the One Wellingborough Plus project and hosted by the Victoria Centre. To take part next time, register using the contact form on our Saturday Swap Shop page and we will email you back with the Zoom link.

Advice on litter picking

From Public Health Northamptonshire

While we understand that litter picking is an important community activity and appreciate the volunteer effort, we want to make sure you are aware of the current guidelines and that any community activity is Covid secure to minimise risk of infection.

The Government has announced from 8 – 29th March 2021 people will be allowed to leave home for recreation and exercise outdoors with their household or support bubble, if they
are eligible for one, or with one person from outside their household. From 29 March, outdoor gatherings either 6 people (the Rule of 6) or 2 households will also be allowed.

Any litter picking must be compliant with social distancing and COVID rules. You should not encourage people to volunteer outside of their local area or arrange for large groups to meet.

People must maintain a 2 metre distancing outdoors unless from the same household, with use of hand sanitisers and face coverings. Furthermore, litter picking may involve littered face masks and gloves, and any items which may have been in contact with the virus, and so precautions must be taken to wear gloves and not pick up any litter by hand, using only litter
picking equipment.

Local authorities and the police will continue to provide support and advice, enabling groups to operate safely. Where people do not follow the rules, the appropriate enforcement action
will be taken.

Further information on the guidance can be found here
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-response-spring-2021/covid-19-
response-spring-2021-summary#step-1—8-and-29-march

We of course do have this guidance in place for our Womble activities and our Tuesday Tidy Ups. This can be found both on the about section of the Wellie Wombles group on Facebook at https://facebook.com/groups/welliewombles and on our website at https://wellingboroughecogroup.org.uk/eco/litter-picking/tuesday-tidy-ups

Alleyway Clearances Needed

WELLIE WOMBLES – WELLINGBOROUGH ECO GROUP

Marion and Chris litter picked the alleyways around Colwell Road on Tuesday, filling 12 bags! Not bad for a few ours on a Tuesday Tidy Up afternoon! Well done both!

If litter pickers are up for a challenge, there are loads more alleyways to clear up before they are gated off. These are located near to the Victoria Centre, so easy to walk to on our Tuesday Tidy Ups.

Have a look at the map, which shows where they are being installed. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated. Work starts installing the gates on Monday. Thanks all 🙂

Saturday Swap Shop

Do you have anything you want to swap or are you looking to give something away?

Live on Zoom, our second ‘Saturday Swap Shop’ will be hosted by the Victoria Centre. We will have a selection of items to swap and we invite you to swap with us and others on Saturday 6th March, between 10:30 and 12:00 midday. It’s going to be fun and it’s free!

You could describe it as a kind of cashless bring-and-buy sale. Participants do not need to bring anything in order to take away goods, and vice versa.

Saturday Swap Shop is at the Victoria Centre, but due to lockdown, this is a Zoom only event. We will be using our Facebook Group and our forum to share pictures, start posting today or you can simply just hold up you item(s) during the event.
