North Northamptonshire Council

Previously Wellingborough Norse (1st April 2022)

North Northamptonshire Council provide the following services in the town and (what was) the borough:

  • Waste management and recycling
  • Fleet management
  • Grounds maintenance, including maintenance of parks and open spaces, trees, cemeteries and churchyards
  • Street cleansing
  • Public toilets
  • Operation of the town centre marketplace
  • Car parks
  • Winter gritting operations
  • Public halls
  • Use of parks and parks games
  • Environmental education and enforcement
  • Facilities management for operational properties and land

A good example of what they do is empty over 50,000 wheelie bins a week! A good thing that they do is work to reduce the amount that ends up in landfill. One way they do this is by holding regular stalls promoting recycling. They do likewise to stop people fly tipping too.

Recycling

They use different coloured bins across North Northamptonshire for loose recycling:

  • Corby area: Blue and brown
  • East Northamptonshire area: Black with a green lid
  • Kettering area: Blue
  • Wellingborough area: Green

Extra Recycling – Recycling should be loose and not bagged. We will take extra recycling if it is in an open cardboard box or clear bag, placed next to your recycling bin in dry conditions.

They accept:

  • cardboard (including card packaging, cereal boxes, greetings cards)
  • glass (clean and empty bottles and jars)
  • cans (clean food, drink and pet food cans, emptied aerosols)
  • foil (yoghurt tops, wrappers, clean takeaway trays)
  • paper (letters, envelopes, newspapers, magazines and catalogues, non-foil wrapping paper (shredded paper should go into the general refuse bin or composted at home))
  • some plastic (squashed plastic bottles, yoghurt pots, margarine tubs, food trays and punnets).

They don’t accept:

  • cellophane, plastic wrapping or foil gift wrapping
  • cling film
