PLANTING TREES for the King and in remembrance of the Queen in Castlefields Park.

Ģreat turnout of around 30 people this morning to plant trees from our Community Allotment Tree Nursery, donated to Wellingborough Town Council, to create a copse of Rowan trees for the Queen’s Green Canopy and one Oak for King Charles.

The Mayor, Jonathan Ekins, lead the planting, ably supported by Town Councillors, all three Town Council staff and two experienced estates staff from North Northamptonshire Council. Joanne, Deputy Clerk, who collected the trees, guards and stakes from us at our Community Allotment last Wednesday, had all of the trees lined up ready for us to plant.

We supplied 30 Rowan trees, which turned out to be the perfect number because it meant that everyone who wanted to, got to plant their own tree, including local athletics celeb Anita Neal.

We planted one for the local Councillor, Marion Turner-Hawes, who has been watering the trees all summer, but unfortunately missed this due to illness. Great morning, well organised, well done and thank you all. ?

Castlefields Litter Picked

Massive thank you to the 30 litter picking heroes that joined us at our Two Hour Tidy Up in Castlefields Park and around the surrounding streets this morning. All together we filled 36 bags with litter, plus retrieved a piece of tarpaulin, a scooter, a shopping trolley, three gas bottles and a baby walker!

Thank you to Tricia and John, Craig, Emma and Billy, Jane and Robert, Jonathan, Freddie, Judy, Victoria, David, Jessica, Euan abd Evan, Pretty and Mohapi, Marion, Anthony, Hazel and Glenn, Chris, and Wa, Jordanna, Karen, Petrina, Mia, Keira and Ben, and Jess. Great to see so many families out today, thank you all!

Our next group Two Hour Tidy Up will be on the last Saturday of January, but we do have Tuesday Tidy Ups every week 2-6pm at ECO HUB Glamis Hall. Litter pickers and hoops provided, plus get your bags for free. Do join us if you can.

Litter Picking Castle Fields

This month’s Two Hour Tidy Up takes place on Saturday morning (26th November) and we are litter picking Castlefields and the surrounding streets. We will set up a recycling station at the Irthlingborough Road entrance to the park from 9:30 to litter pick between 10am-12 midday. There will be tea and coffee available for all!

This location has been chosen because Wellingborough Town Council are planting 31 of our trees in the park at 11am on the following Wednesday. As a group we have tidied up this area before, but unfortunately, it’s messy again so there’s plenty to do.

To help us and keep us safe at this and future litter picks, Wellingborough Eco Group have purchased some litter pickers, hi-vis vests and safety equipment including road signs, so everything is provided but please bring your own gloves if you can.

North Northants Council will take away the litter we pick, hand sanitiser will be available. We will be joined by Wellie Wombles and many other volunteers, so do join in, bring your friends and family, ALL WELCOME!

Advent Calendar 2022

We are doing our advent calendar again this year of local businesses and community organisations, and this time the focus is on good things happening in Wellingborough – good things for the environment, good things for people.

We did this last year to promote those who offer eco-friendly services and those who are making a difference in Wellingborough and in the surrounding area, and to build Wellingborough Eco Map, a guide of local eco-friendly services.

If you offer an eco-friendly service or are a community organisation, particularly if you are having a Christmas event, send us your story and a logo and we will do our best to find a window for you!

The window will be linked to our blog with an article all about what you offer. You’ll also be put on Wellingborough Eco Map and on the Wellingborough Organisations website too!

If you would you like your business or service on our advent calendar this year, and on Wellingborough Eco Map, email info@wellingboroughecogroup.org.uk, visit us at ECO HUB Glamis Hall, call or WhatsApp 07311 705705, or message us on social media.

Our Advent Calendar will be updated with a new window opening every day until Christmas Eve, shared here and across our social media outlets; and by the way, it starts on the 1st December…
