Tree Planting at Kilborn Park now on 2nd December!

Wellingborough Eco Group Nature Rangers

As you know due to the weather, the tree planting morning on Saturday 18th November was postponed. It has now been rescheduled to Saturday 2nd December, from 9am til 12. All welcome, we would like everyone like to come and plant trees! You will need to bring our own spades and dress for the weather.

After a successful planting session last year in Castlefields (see header picture) this year the planting location is going to be Kilborn park in Wellingborough (see map) and this time we are planting lots more trees! We will have tea and coffee available, plus hand washing facilities. Meet at our Tree Planting Station on the corner of Kilborn Road.

Do join us to plant trees in Kilborn Park on Saturday 2nd December from 9am til 12!

We have 400 trees and will start planting these in Kilborn Park on the 18th November. We will have to see how the planting goes to see if we have any to put elsewhere, the spare trees will join others at our tree nursery on our Community Allotment and heeled in.

The trees are a mixture of hawthorn, dogwood, wild cherry, silver birch, rowan and hazel. The trees will be planted in an area of the park on the slope near Kilborn Close and along Kilborn Road. Do join us to plant trees!

MORE TREES NOW to introduce transplantation method in Corby

More Trees Now

This weekend (25th and 26th November) as part of ‘National Tree Week,’ More Trees Now are organising a ‘harvest’ day with and for the community and Corby.

On a harvest day the aim is to save redundant or unwanted saplings to transplant them to places where they are wanted and can become mature trees. Lots of saplings are removed in routine forest management, but they are a valuable source of indigenous and free planting material.

The method was developed in the Netherlands, and their will be a small delegation present from the team that started this will be there at the weekend to share their knowledge.

More Trees Now will be having a presentation of the project on Saturday and visits to Weldon Country Park, Iron Pit Wood and Cowthick Plantation on Sunday:

25/11: presentation

Time: 17.30. Learn about the method, ‘treeplanner’ online tool and how to organise and be part of the movement!

26/11: harvest day

Join them at 9.30 as they save thousands of saplings from Weldon Woodland Park. These trees will be given away for free later!

The aim is to accelerate tree planting initiatives throughout the UK to stop climate change and support biodiversity restoration. Saplings are abundant, and everyone in the community can participate, join in this weekend!

Litter Pick at The Embankment this Saturday!

Wellingborough Eco Group & Wellie Wombles

Join us for this Month’s Two Hour Tidy Up, it takes place this Saturday (25th November) at The Embankment. Our Recycling Station will be set up from 9:30am in the car park, for litter picking between 10 and 12. We will be litter picking the park area, along the river, under The Walks trees, and in the river itself in an 18 foot Canadian Canoe!

This location has been chosen by Jonathan after being contacted by Michael who offered to join us with his canoe, and because we haven’t picked this area for ages. Litter pickers can walk or cycle safely to where we will be using The Walks path that connects this area to the Town Centre and to the wider town.

To help us and keep us safe, we have litter pickers, hi-vis vests and safety equipment including road signs, so everything is provided but please bring your own gloves if you can. Tea and coffee will also be available for free! Do join us to make this area tidier, see you on Saturday morning!
