Tomorrow’s Forest

A new Micro Wood (or Tiny Forest) will be planted in Castlefields Park on 13th and 14th March. We and North Northamptonshire Council have partnered with ‘Tomorrows Forests,’ who will be assisting us with the ground preparations, fence installation and will also be helping with the tree planting.

North Northamptonshire Council have secured funding for Tomorrow’s Forest to plant a tiny forest in Castlfields Park. We have invited local schools to be involved, both in the planting and the measuring and monitoring of it. The dates for planting are 13th and 14th of March, and there will be two sessions both days, 10 – 12 and 1 – 3pm when the children can get involved.

The plan is to plant a micro wood of 750 whips in the near the dip towards Irthlingborough Road. The Council and Tomorrow’s Forrest are hoping to get all of the land prep and fencing installed on Wednesday 12th March. This will be followed by two days of planting on the Thursday 13th and Friday 14th March.

We have four schools joining us, who keen to use their local environment for learning, plus hopefully some of our Eco Club for Kids and Noughts and Crosses children. Adult supervisors will be there for the planting and can be an extra pair of hands.

As a group we have planted trees in Castlefields before (see header), but this time is about getting children involved. This is in addition to the 1200 trees that we are planting, taking our total to nearly 200 this year! We will be finishing off with 200 whips on Brickhill Road on Saturday 15th March, 10am-1pm, find out more on our Tree Planting page, please join us there too!

Jonathan, Wellingborough Eco Group Community Interest Company

The people leading this are Hannah Dunstan, a Tree Ranger from North Northamptonshire Council, John Gilyead and Jonathan Hornett, from Wellingborough Eco Group, and Valerie Anslow, a North Northamptonshire Councillor and Wellingborough Town Councillor. All of whom will be on hand at different times, with people from Tomorrow’s Forest, to cover the sessions.

Come and join us to plant a micro wood. We have also had some interest from Hindu Climate Action who may also have some volunteers interested in helping with the tree planting, and hopefully you, it would be great if we could get some more volunteers together to help us out. See you there!
