Tree Planting at Kilborn Park now on 2nd December!

Wellingborough Eco Group Nature Rangers

As you know due to the weather, the tree planting morning on Saturday 18th November was postponed. It has now been rescheduled to Saturday 2nd December, from 9am til 12. All welcome, we would like everyone like to come and plant trees! You will need to bring our own spades and dress for the weather.

After a successful planting session last year in Castlefields (see header picture) this year the planting location is going to be Kilborn park in Wellingborough (see map) and this time we are planting lots more trees! We will have tea and coffee available, plus hand washing facilities. Meet at our Tree Planting Station on the corner of Kilborn Road.

Do join us to plant trees in Kilborn Park on Saturday 2nd December from 9am til 12!

We have 400 trees and will start planting these in Kilborn Park on the 18th November. We will have to see how the planting goes to see if we have any to put elsewhere, the spare trees will join others at our tree nursery on our Community Allotment and heeled in.

The trees are a mixture of hawthorn, dogwood, wild cherry, silver birch, rowan and hazel. The trees will be planted in an area of the park on the slope near Kilborn Close and along Kilborn Road. Do join us to plant trees!

MORE TREES NOW to introduce transplantation method in Corby

More Trees Now

This weekend (25th and 26th November) as part of ‘National Tree Week,’ More Trees Now are organising a ‘harvest’ day with and for the community and Corby.

On a harvest day the aim is to save redundant or unwanted saplings to transplant them to places where they are wanted and can become mature trees. Lots of saplings are removed in routine forest management, but they are a valuable source of indigenous and free planting material.

The method was developed in the Netherlands, and their will be a small delegation present from the team that started this will be there at the weekend to share their knowledge.

More Trees Now will be having a presentation of the project on Saturday and visits to Weldon Country Park, Iron Pit Wood and Cowthick Plantation on Sunday:

25/11: presentation

Time: 17.30. Learn about the method, ‘treeplanner’ online tool and how to organise and be part of the movement!

26/11: harvest day

Join them at 9.30 as they save thousands of saplings from Weldon Woodland Park. These trees will be given away for free later!

The aim is to accelerate tree planting initiatives throughout the UK to stop climate change and support biodiversity restoration. Saplings are abundant, and everyone in the community can participate, join in this weekend!

Love Your Tree Day

Show your love for your favourite tree on #LoveYourTreeDay!

Trees have so many benefits, they provide us with oxygen to breathe, home for wildlife, and much more. Following recent events on The Walks in Wellingborough, and the success of the Save Our Trees campaign, we think that our trees deserve to be celebrated. We would like everyone to chose their favourite tree and decorate it for May, and this starts with Love Your Tree Day on the 1st!

Trees form an essential part of our environment and, over the years, their importance has been taught to children growing up. Even in recent times, individuals have become so environmentally conscious that a sustainable lifestyle to protect our trees has become the norm. Most people now want to protect and preserve our trees, which make the world a better and safer place to live in.

Love Your Tree Day is all about showing that you love trees. You can do this in a number of ways. By simply tying a yellow ribbon around your favourite tree you can show that someone cares for that tree. Decorations could be more than that, but we would like to show everyone in our town that our trees are loved without creating mess. You can also draw them, photograph them and even plant them, and then share them!

Join SAVE OUR TREES campaigners and Eco Group members at The Embankment and The Walks at 11am in the car park to dress the trees and/or dress your favourite tree near you!

Yellow ribbons are to be taken down and recycled after the Waendal Walk weekend, sustainable cotton yellow ribbons will be also available from our ECO HUB. It would be amazing if these decorations could last for a couple of weeks, so that those celebrating the Coronation and those taking part in the Waendal Walk could see them and join in.

ECO HUB has started a tree of hands today, and we want your hand in it. Draw round your hand, colour it in, add it to the tree. Join in at our Happy Cafés, Eco Club for Kids and Polish Community Group sessions. Here is the ECO HUB Hand Tree so far:

The 1st May represents a celebration of life for everyone, and has done for hundreds of years, that’s why we want everyone to celebrate trees which breathe life into our town! So decorate your tree, take a picture and share on your favourite social media platform with the hashtag #LoveYourTreeDay and with us! We look forward to seeing your favourite trees!
