Beginners’ Corn Dolly Workshop

Come and learn a new skill, meet new friends (or old) and enjoy doing some mindful crafting as an antidote to all things AI!

Some beautiful, decorative ornaments can be made from straw. You may have seen them used as decorations at festivals to celebrate the gathering of the harvest.

Corn dolly making is on the list of endangered heritage crafts so why not come along and add to the number of those practicing it today?

The wheat that farmers grow today is mainly for flour and is bred to have shorter stalks and bigger ears of grain. Growth inhibitors may also be sprayed on it to restrict the growth of the stalks, so all the nutrients go into producing more food.

We therefore need to use heritage wheat varieties with nice long stalks. It is the same type of wheat that is used for thatching.

The workshop will take place at: Ladywell Allotments (off Hillside Rd) Wellingborough. NN8 4HE

If weather permits, we can work outside, but in the event of rain we can retreat inside the cabin. So please come dressed appropriately for autumn weather. Please note that in the event of extreme weather we may have to reschedule.
