Community Allotment Young Carers

Northamptonshire Young Carers are going to be using the allotment to give children who look after their parents the chance to have a break, to garden and to learn about nature. So as a priority this week we have fenced off under the apple tree, plus added a sink for washing hands and pots.

Everything is growing; the plants are all going for it, we have marrows ready, tomatoes taking over, spuds and onions catching up, plus we have lots of flowers 🌱🌺

Hello from our Community Allotment

Everything is growing including the weeds, and a few bits and bobs have been added since the last photos, can you spot them?

More weeding and painting needed if you want to join in tomorrow afternoon, from 1:30-5:30, where we are having a working party, a couple of people are joining us already. We’re also connecting the larger greenhouse to a water tank is needed, take your pick…

Call Jonathan on 07311 705705 to get in the gates at the end of Hillside Road, hopefully see you anytime between 1:30 & 5:30 πŸ’š

New (sort of) Womble Bin at Glamis Hall

For ‘Helipads for Hospitals’

At our Tuesday Tidy Up tomorrow, we’ll have a Womble Bin, for all of the drinks cans that you have saved or litter picked! This bin will be emptied every week by Wellingborough Cadets and the cans will be sent to Helipads for Hospitals to be recycled into something new.

Even the bin itself has been Wombled! We rescued it from an allotment plot that was cleared at the weekend. And just perhaps it’s an original borough council black bin, made in 1991, it’s a bit scuffed (and a bit smelly) but it will be decorated (and deodorised) tomorrow…

We are collecting cans for Helipads for Hospitals, which is a charity in Leicestershire that is collecting drinks cans to build helipads for A&E hospitals. Find out more at: https://helipadsforhospitals.org.uk/

Join us between 4 and 8 tomorrow for Tuesday Tidy Ups for all your litter picking equipment and bags, a tidy up and to use our 30 year old Womble Bin. Join us also for our Repair Club between 6-8. The Womble Bin will also be at Glamis Hall for you to use Monday to Friday 9-4!

Today’s Tuesday Tidy Up

Thank you to Hayley and Julie, Lucy, Cheryl, Georgina and Freddie, and Jonathan and his little helper Billy for taking part or popping in to Tuesday Tidy Ups today. 5 bags picked, lots more bags taken away for future wombling…

Recycling also brought in by Lucy. You can now bring your drinks cans for Helipads and your hard to recycle items like crisp packets. Find out more on our Eco Map website at https://wellingboroughecogroup.org.uk/map/glamis-hall-recycling/

Well done all πŸ€©πŸ‘

New Repair Club at Glamis Hall!

From Tuesday and then every Tuesday we will host our popular Repair Club from 6 until 8pm to save you money and the planet!

There are no promises and no guarantees, but if something can be saved, our repairers will give it their best efforts. There is no charge for a repair, but donations are gratefully received and help pay for costs. All donations will be split 50/50 with Glamis Hall.

Repair Club has been set up by Wellingborough Eco Group to work alongside our Repair Cafes at Glamis Hall. These usually take place during their Indoor Car Boot Sales, on the second Saturday of month, but have been on hold due to covid.

Repair Cafes are community events that match people who need stuff fixed with people who like fixing things. Repair Cafes are completely non-commercial. There are no promises and no guarantees, but if something can be saved the repairers will give it their best efforts.

Repair Club works the same but depending on the fix, some items may need to be left with us and collected when repaired. Items will need to be brought to Glamis Hall’s Community Room where a repairer will be available to advise (advice also available online)

This service is only available on Tuesdays between 6-8pm at Glamis Hall or at anytime via our website or virtually on our Facebook group at https://www.facebook.com/groups/repairclub

For more information see https://wellingboroughecogroup.org.uk/eco/repair-cafe/repair-club/
See you (and your broken items) on Tuesday evening!

Litter Picking at Stanwell Park

Thank you to the 15 litter heroes this morning who took part in our Two Hour Tidy Up of Stanwell Park. We picked 35 bags of litter, plus cleared 5 pallets, 2 TVs, a plastic barrier, 3 children’s scooters, a buggy, lots of cardboard and various items made of MDF.

This litter pick took place between 10 and 12 and our recycling station was at the top of the park’s cycle path just off of Wordsworth Road. As you can see there is a huge pile of rubbish. Under the new system of reporting, North Northamptonshire Council have been informed of this. Unfortunately due to this new system Wellingborough Norse could not collect it on the same day.

Thank you to Jessica, Emma, Jonathan and Bill, Mark, Suzanne and James, Judy, Allan, Glenn and Hazel, Jayne and Hannah, Niall and David. Great to see local residents, Mark and Allan, join us litter picking this area with us. Thank you also to other local residents who came out to say thank you to us for tidying up their local park.

The next Two Hour Tidy Up will take place on Saturday 31st July, location to be decided, join Wellingborough Eco Group and/or Wellie Wombles to find out more…

Litter Picking Stanwell Park

This Month’s Two Hour Tidy Up takes place this Saturday (26th June) at Stanwell Park. Our Recycling Station will be set up from 9:30am at the top of the footpath off of Wordsworth Road, for litter picking between 10 and 12.

Litter pickers, hoops, Hi-vis and bags will be provided, please bring your own gloves because of covid. Do join us to tidy up this lovely linear park, everyone is welcome.

Bag Reporting Made Easy

For Wellie Wombles and all

As you may have seen, from now on, anyone litter picking in North Northamptonshire, including in the Wellingborough area, be they groups or individuals, will have to contact North Northamptonshire Council to organise collection of bags of litter picked.

To make this easier, we have made a form that you can use to notify North Northants Council where you have left your bags from your litter pick. To make sure that the bags are collected, Wellingborough Norse will receive this notification, plus we will also receive an email from this form so that we can chase it up if needed.

As an added bonus this form also updates Northants Litter Wombles for their Litter Log, so you will still only have to fill in one form! If you have taken your bags home or already have had them collected, please don’t use this form, use the Northants Litter Wombles Litter Log form instead to log your bags. Find our Bag Report form at: https://wellingboroughecogroup.org.uk/eco/litter-picking/bag-report/

This form is also available on the Wellie Wombles page of our website too!
