Today at Repair Café & Swap Shop

Wellingborough Eco Group & Glamis Hall

Thank you everyone for coming and joining in this morning! Lots fixed and swapped, saving loads of items from landfill and saving people lots of money!

Our usual repairers were replaced by Virtual Simon this morning, but he was only called upon once at the Repair Cafe, because Judy and Jonathan fixed the rest! Two hard drives taken in for Simon when he is feeling better. Phone charger, key rings, dog collar, dog harness, vacuum cleaner, strimmer and a laptop fixed by Jonthan, and on her debut as a repairer a hiking pole and perfume bottle were fixed by Judy!

Wellingborough Swap Shop also had a great stall with Kat, ably assisted by Judy again, in the hall, which included quite a few Food Club eggs! Our kiddywinks Elora and Billy had a great time too 😍

Thank you Judy, Jonathan, Emma (who helped out) and Kat. Thank you Sarah and everyone at Glamis Hall for hosting us, well done all!

Repair Café This Saturday

Wellingborough Eco Group and Glamis Hall are hosting the Repair Café at the Indoor Car Boot Sale, 9 -12 on Saturday 12th March and on every 2nd Saturday morning of the month.

Repair Cafes are community events that match people who need stuff fixed with people who like fixing things. Repair Cafes are completely non-commercial. There are no promises and no guarantees, but if something can be saved the repairers will give it their best efforts. Repairers are always keen to teach you how to do the repair – or at least have you watch while they do it.

A bicycle, clothing in need of repair, small electrical or electronic appliances, lamps, toys, mobile phones, laptops, printers, items that need gluing, a clean/repair etc. You can basically bring anything you can carry that will not make a mess in the venue.

Whatever it is, it might not even be broken – just dirty, and you don’t know how to clean it without damaging it – or you can’t work out how to use it without the manual – bring it along! There is no charge for entry or repair but donations are gratefully received and help pay for costs.

Can You Fix It?

We are also seeking more repairers, so if you want to share your skills (whatever they are) to save stuff being thrown away, join us. We would love you to get involved! Email, call 07311 705705 or use the form below if you are interested.

Find out more on the Repair Café page. If you have an item to fix you can use the form below to book it in, or call us. You can also join our Repair Café Club using the form or on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/repairclub

Wellingborough Eco Group and Glamis Hall are again hosting Repair Cafes during Indoor Car Boot Sales. Today’s Repair Cafe took place in the reception from 9am -12. Items brought in included two toasters, two stereos, a TV and some fairy lights.

Thank you to our fixers and helpers, and to everyone who brought items in to be repaired at our Repair Cafe this morning. Simon and to a lesser extent, Jonathan, fixed and advised lots of people including the town’s mayor! Jane was less busy offering her sowing skills and Judy kept everyone happy and organised us all.

Thank you also to everyone for the very positive response to our new Energy Savers project. Looks like we have some work to do on this, with lots of really useful feedback received from people today. Find out more about our community energy project at energysavers.org.uk

Today’s Tuesday Tidy Up

Thank you to everyone for another successful tidy up today, 8 bags and a mini collected!

We also filled up our new Womble Bin by a quarter with drinks cans, plus sold 2 pro litter pickers and 3 hoops! (Card machine works, which is helpful.)

The Repair Club was busy too, pictured is Owen with his fixed electric scooter (Womble Bin in the background) Great to see everyone, nice to see people chatting 🙂👍

A Busy Eco Week Coming Up

There are loads of Wellingborough Eco Group activities happening this week! We have five dates for activities coming up, hopefully you can join us?

Community Allotment – Working Parties

And there’s loads more to do at our Community Allotment, the good news is that we can restart our working parties from 29th March 🙂🤞 So if anyone is up for it, we propose that we simply have to do Monday 29th, say 10am until lunchtime(ish) then an Easter egg hunt!

Yes children are invited and Billy will be with Jonathan, but please note the ‘Rule of Six’ so we may not all be working together.

We also could do some building on Saturday afternoon (3rd April) from 1 onwards. There’s two sheds, a fence (posts are done) and a gazebo to do! Any help would be greatly appreciated 😉👍

Find out more on the Community Allotment webpage or on our Community Allotment Facebook group.

Tuesday Tidy Ups with Wellie Wombles

If you would like to do some litter picking during lockdown, you can individually or with members of your bubble; and loads of Wellie Wombles have been! You can join in with this on our Wellie Wombles Facebook Group

To help you, on each and every Tuesday afternoon, we have teamed up with the Victoria Centre and Wellingborough Norse to loan litter pickers, hi-vis, gloves and to give away bags.

It’s a call and collect service that you will need to register for. Find out more about Tuesday Tidy Ups and Wellie Wombles on our webpages.

Repair Club Live – our Fourth Fix

Repair Club Live gives you another way to get your items fixed or to learn new skills. We hold Zoom sessions fortnightly on Tuesday evenings at 7:30. A repairer will aim to fix something live, talking you through what needs doing.

On Tuesday (30th March) Simon will be looking at repairing a member’s iron and a local councillor’s hand held window cleaner. Who knows how he will get on, but hopefully we will have fun and a fix or two in an hour!

Find out more on the Repair Club webpage or on our Repair Club Facebook group.

Saturday Swap Shop – Easter Special!

This time we are asking ‘do you have anything to swap or are you looking to give an Easter Egg away?’

Live on Zoom, our fourth ‘Saturday Swap Shop’ has Easter as its theme! We will be hosted by the Victoria Centre, where we will invite you to swap with us and others. Join us on Saturday 3rd April, between 10:30 and 12:00 midday; it’s going to be fun, there might be chocolate and it’s free!

To keep you safe on Saturday, and so that you don’t have to share your details with everyone, please register by using the contact form on our Saturday Swap Shop webpage and we will email you back with the Zoom link

Do Join in with any of our activities if you can, if you would like further details or have any questions please send us a message using the form below (selecting the subject you are enquiring about would be helpful)
