Wellingborough Eco Group and Wellie Wombles

This Month’s Two Hour Tidy Up takes place on Saturday 26th July in Queensway Park. We will be setting up our Recycling Station from 9:30 in the field behind Glamis Hall and ECO HUB, for litter picking between 10 and 12. We will be litter picking the whole park, and the nearby streets.

This location has been chosen because Glamis Hall’ Family Festival, also join us on from 10am – 3pm where we will have three stalls for lots of FAMILY FUN! As a group we have tidied up this area before, but not as a group pick since last July, so there’s a lot to do to make the park tidy again. We will also be litter picking throughout the festival. See map below for the location:

To help us and keep us safe at this and future litter picks, Wellingborough Eco Group have some litter pickers, hi-vis vests and safety equipment including road signs, so everything is provided but please bring your own gloves if you can. Free cold drinks plus tea and Coffee will be available for all litter pickers, plus hand sanitiser will also be available, do join us if you can, ALL WELCOME!

Thank you, National Lottery players, for Funding Us!

We are pleased to announce that, thanks to National Lottery players, we can now fund a part time Coordinator. The National Lottery Community Fund awards money raised by players to communities across the UK, working with local groups and UK-wide charities, enabling people and communities to thrive. Thank you for funding us!

Wellingborough Eco Group Community Interest Company has identified the need for a Coordinator to organise and carry out the administration of our many and varied activities and events. The Coordinator role is currently carried out by Jonathan on a voluntary basis but owing to the number of activities we are involved in, it has become too time consuming to expect it to be done on a voluntary basis. We will therefore appoint him as an Activities Coordinator for 20 hours per week plus expenses, on a self-employed basis.

The Coordinator will facilitate the smooth running of all our activities; enable us to deliver more sessions; improve the experience of our volunteers and support more volunteering opportunities. They will increase local engagement with our services and activities; organise fund raising and apply for and monitor grants to support and improve our activities; develop partnerships with other organisations to further our aims of protecting the environment, connecting local people with nature and helping people reduce their carbon footprint.

Since the group started in 2019, we have attended events and added sessions which are now well established and well attended. We will continue to advertise them through social media, our website, occasional leaflet distribution and attendance at local events. We expect that this role will continue after the year of funding and we will be fundraising ourselves, as well as applying for other grants, to enable the work to continue into the foreseeable future and possibly become a full-time role.

Thank you, Judy, our secretary, for successfully applying for this Awards for All grant from the National Lottery Community Fund. Judy, who also runs our Repair Café, has made this happen! Thank you also to our committee and all our amazing volunteers for everything you do to enable Wellingborough Eco Group to help improve our borough’s environment, to reduce, reuse and recycle items that would otherwise end up in landfill, and to help local people reduce their carbon footprints. And thank you everyone who takes part in our activities!
