From tomorrow, Monday 27th February, it’s Fairtrade Fortnight and Jonathan, Co-op Member Pioneer, thought that we could promo this via Glamis Hall’s Winter Warm Space at our ECO HUB with donations he gets from the Co-op. We will be offering free Fairtrade Coffee, tea and food samples, plus hot food cooked freshly every day!
With a cost of living and climate crisis, many of us are facing tough decisions. Some of us have moved to working from home following the pandemic and are facing a winter with increased energy bills. Others are facing even harder decisions about whether to heat or eat. Well the Winter Warm Space is there for warmth, food and drink, plus a chance to chat to other local people and play games!
Winter Warm Spaces are for anyone in need of warmth & community, they are a warm space to share with others. Join us on Mondays, Tuesday and Thursday 10-2, and on Fridays 10-2 for our Eco Club for Kids. There will be different food samples and hot food dishes every day so do come more than once.
Come and try Fairtrade on us, and then perhaps when you shop, look for the FAIRTRADE Mark. You may even find that you save money by choosing Fairtrade! It’s all about making the small switch to Fairtrade, we can all support producers in protecting the future of some of our most-loved food and the planet. The power is in your hands. See you soon…
Join us at this month’s Two Hour Tidy up this Saturday morning (25th February) we are litter picking the Victoria Area. We will set up a recycling station at the Victoria Centre from 9:30 to litter pick between 10am-12 midday.
This location has been chosen because Wellie Wombles are celebrating their 2nd birthday afterwards at the Victoria Centre (12-2pm). As a group we have tidied up this area before, but unfortunately due to some messy people there’s plenty to do. There are lots of streets and some green areas to tidy up.
To help us and keep us safe at this and future litter picks, Wellingborough Eco Group have purchased some litter pickers, hi-vis vests and safety equipment including road signs, so everything is provided but please bring your own gloves if you can.
North Northants Council will take away the litter we pick, hand sanitiser will be available. We will be joined by Wellie Wombles and many other volunteers, so do join in, bring your friends and family, and stay afterwards for some hot food and drinks, ALL WELCOME!

Join us at this month’s Two Hour Tidy up this Saturday morning (28th January) we are litter picking Midland Road and into Castlefields Park. We will set up a recycling station on the corner of Brook Street East from 9:30 to litter pick between 10am-12 midday.
Midland Road is in a terrible state, litter is everywhere and leaves are making it treacherous! So we’ll have a go and removing both. Bring your rakes and shovels, this could be hard work!
For families and those wanting something less demanding, we have litter pickers and hoops for you, and our recycling station is where it is because it’s only a short safe walk to Castlefields Park.
This location has been chosen by local Town Councillor Marion Turner-Hawes (pictured above) who has had a go herself today, and will be joining us on Saturday. Here are some photos to get you in the mood, see you on Saturday morning…
Do you have anything you want to swap or are you looking to give something away?
Live on Zoom, our first online ‘Saturday Swap Shop’ will be hosted at ECO HUB, Glamis Hall. We will have a selection of items to swap and we invite you to swap with us and others on Saturday 21st January, between 10am and 2pm. It’s going to be fun and it’s free!
Wellingborough Swap Shop is a free and local exchange where members of the public can pass on things they no longer want, in exchange for something they need. You could describe it as a kind of bring-and-buy sale. Participants do not need to bring anything in order to take away goods, a small donation to the group will do too.
January Support Bags
January Support Bags will be available at ECO HUB with the Swap Shop.
Wilby Community Food Group and our Food Sharers group will be there 10:30-3:30 on the 21st January to give us the opportunity to help you and to save in date food that you won’t be using. Support Bags will work as follows:
For a £5 donation you can choose 6 items.
For a £10 donation you can choose 12 items.
Depending on the amount of donations and items available we may be able to be super helpful and allow some extras in your bags too, so get donating please! If anyone or everyone that is able to could donate the minimum of 1 item of food, cleaning products, laundry products, pet foods, pasta, toilet rolls, any unwanted, unopened and in date foods. Toiletries, tins, teabags, coffee etc etc. that would be so helpful. We’re All In. Northants is kindly donating the last bits of their stock to help and Food Sharers will donate some ambient foods too.
That jar of coffee auntie Joan brought round to use whilst she was at yours for Christmas but didn’t use – please donate it this way… The chocolate orange bar you put in little Tarquin’s stocking to fill it out but you know he doesn’t like chocolate orange – please consider donating it this way…. If you’ve started a new year-new you diet – all those naughty foods – hide them in our January Support Bags!
Kat, Wilby Community Food Group
