This location has been chosen by Wellie Wombles and because we have a games stall at the fun day. As a group we have tidied up this area before, but unfortunately due to some messy people there’s a lot to do.
The Armed Forces Family Fun Day is a celebration of Royal British Legion, Wellingborough and the District 100 years of service. It’s a free event with live music, Sloane Helicopters flying by, and much more. Come down to Bassett’s Close, have a two hour tidy up and join in the celebrations.
To help us and keep us safe at this and future litter picks, Wellingborough Eco Group have purchased some litter pickers, hi-vis vests and safety equipment including road signs, so everything is provided but please bring your own gloves if you can. Hand sanitiser will be available, bring your friends and family, ALL WELCOME!
Great morning today in Glamis Hall’s Community Room, nice to see lots of new faces! Our Repair Café looked at 3 printers, a lamp, a toaster, a hoover and a clock!
Saturday Swap Shop had loads of stuff too, so much so we had books, DVDs and toys outside! Lots of fun (and sun) thank you Kat, Judy, Simon and Jonathan for your help.
Swap Shop is back again with Tuesday Tidy Ups, Baby Bank and Food Sharers on Tuesday afternoon 2-6pm, see you there!
Wellingborough Swap Shop and Repair Café are onthis Saturday!
Wellingborough Eco Group and Glamis Hall are hosting the Repair Café and Wellingborough Swap Shop on Saturday 11th June, 9 -12. Both will be in the Community Room and we have a couple of other stalls with us outside too!
Repair Café
Repair Cafes are community events that match people who need stuff fixed with people who like fixing things. Repair Cafes are completely non-commercial. There are no promises and no guarantees, but if something can be saved the repairers will give it their best efforts. Repairers are always keen to teach you how to do the repair – or at least have you watch while they do it.
A bicycle, clothing in need of repair, small electrical or electronic appliances, lamps, toys, mobile phones, laptops, printers, items that need gluing, a clean/repair etc. You can basically bring anything you can carry that will not make a mess in the venue.
Whatever it is, it might not even be broken – just dirty, and you don’t know how to clean it without damaging it – or you can’t work out how to use it without the manual – bring it along! There is no charge for entry or repair but donations are gratefully received and help pay for costs.
See you on Saturday morning at Glamis Hall where we try to fix your broken items for FREE!
Wellingborough Swap Shop
We will be in the Community Room and all items will be available for swaps or a small donation to the group. You can bring something and swap it for something else or you can buy something on a ‘pay as you feel’ basis with a donation to the group.
Please can everyone keep toes, eyes, fingers, legs, arms – ANYTHING and EVERYTHING crossed for some good weather so we can get everything out and some bits outside for you to browse through. We’ll have the gazebos up for a couple of stalls that will be joining us too!
Food Sharers will also have a few bits for you and their ‘Bargain Buys’ table. All Bargain Buys items are items we have been offered to purchase, we always price them lower than the shops so that the low price we have paid gets passed on to you. Plus Wellingborough Baby Bank will have selected items out in return for monetary donations to their cause to purchase more nappies and milk.
So, pop along, grab a bargain or swap with us, get your broken items fixed for free and support the other stalls. See you there!
Community groups in Wellingborough joined up to plant trees for the Platinum Jubilee in celebration of The Queen’s 70 years of Service to the Nation. Leading this partnership are Wellingborough Eco Group, Glamis Hall, Welly Trees and Castle Fields Community Group. We encouraged all local groups, including local residents’ associations, Scout and Girl-guiding groups, youth and sports clubs, churches, community centres and Rotary Clubs, to get involved inPlanting a Tree, and they did!
We received 210 trees from The Woodland Trust (a partner of the Queen’s Green Canopy) last November via their Free Trees for Schools and Communities Scheme. We planted these at our Community Allotment in our new Tree Nursery. Across 2021 and 2022 they had over three million saplings in tree packs, available on a first come first served basis. We got these for groups in Wellingborough or the surrounding towns and villages, to get trees from us, and they did!
The 210 trees we received were 75 Rowan, 15 Wild Cherry, 15 Silver Birch, 15 Pendunculate Oak, 15 Grey Willow, 15 Crab Apple, 15 Dog Rose, 15 Blackthorn, 15 Hazel and 15 Elder. We also had canes and tree guards for all of them. We also had 70 other trees of various sizes at our Community Allotment, including 50 one year old oaks and a number of three year old Rowan, Cherry, Birch and Sycamore trees.
The more established trees were also available and more suitable for busy community areas. More than half of trees have now been distributed from the Community Allotment Tree Nursery to community organisations and local councils in and around Wellingborough, including St Marks Church, Finedon Town Council and Greatwell Homes. We also planted some at Glamis Hall and at other sites around the town.
What is the Queen’s Green Canopy
The Queen’s Green Canopy (QGC) is a unique tree planting initiative created to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022 which invites people from across the United Kingdom to “Plant a Tree for the Jubilee”.
Everyone from individuals to Scout and Girlguiding groups, villages, cities, counties, schools and corporates will be encouraged to play their part to enhance our environment by planting trees during the official planting season between October to March. Tree planting will commence again in October 2022, through to the end of the Jubilee year.
With a focus on planting sustainably, the QGC will encourage planting of trees to create a legacy in honour of The Queen’s leadership of the Nation, which will benefit future generations.
As well as inviting the planting of new trees, The Queen’s Green Canopy will dedicate a network of 70 Ancient Woodlands across the United Kingdom and identify 70 Ancient Trees to celebrate Her Majesty’s 70 years of service.
Join in!
Please do get involved, you can volunteer or request trees using the form at wellingborough.org/site/trees. You can also contact the tree partnership by email or give us a call on 07311 705705 (Jonathan)

In Wellingborough Climate Action Project’s first online workshop we discussed the basics about saving energy at home or at work and highlighted any quick wins. This was all about sharing ideas with those that joined us on Thursday 19th May at 7pm, with each other and with you watching the recording of the workshop below.
Marion Turner-Hawes started us off with an introduction to our workshops and gave us an update about the Wellingborough Climate Action Project. Jonathan Hornett then lead a conversational presentation about Energy Basics and all discussed the savings and quick wins that were introduced. We also had many other ideas and contributions from delegates.
Thank you to our presenters and to everyone who joined us to make this a successful and productive evening. We hope that you enjoy watching our first Workshop and that you join us for our next workshop that looks at ‘Energy Use’. Find out more about our upcoming workshops and register at wcap.org.uk/workshops
