Energy Savers

Free Home Energy Advice in Northamptonshire

Energy Savers are local people who want to save energy and money. Wellingborough Eco Group has started this new community energy project with the Centre for Sustainable Energy to help save energy and cut your bills.

Supported by Glamis Hall and other community organisations, we offer free simple home energy advice in Northamptonshire via the Energy Savers website, the Energy Savers Facebook group and at workshops.

The Facebook group is all about sharing tips, your experiences, good and bad, and asking for help. Our workshops and documents will also be shared on here for you.

The website offers tips and information that helps local people spend less on their gas and electricity bills; by saving energy and helping people understand bills, suppliers and meters. Have a look at http://www.energysavers.org.uk/

Repair Cafe Returns

Wellingborough Eco Group and Glamis Hall are again hosting Repair Cafes during Indoor Car Boot Sales. Today’s Repair Cafe took place in the reception from 9am -12. Items brought in included two toasters, two stereos, a TV and some fairy lights.

Thank you to our fixers and helpers, and to everyone who brought items in to be repaired at our Repair Cafe this morning. Simon and to a lesser extent, Jonathan, fixed and advised lots of people including the town’s mayor! Jane was less busy offering her sowing skills and Judy kept everyone happy and organised us all.

Thank you also to everyone for the very positive response to our new Energy Savers project. Looks like we have some work to do on this, with lots of really useful feedback received from people today. Find out more about our community energy project at energysavers.org.uk

Repair Cafes are community events that match people who need stuff fixed with people who like fixing things. Repair Cafes are completely non-commercial. There are no promises and no guarantees, but if something can be saved our repairers will give it their best efforts. Repairers are always keen to teach you how to do the repair – or at least have you watch while they do it.

There is no charge for entry or repair but donations are gratefully received and help pay for costs. You can basically bring anything you can carry that will not make a mess in the venue. Whatever it is, it might not even be broken – just dirty, and you don’t know how to clean it without damaging it – or you can’t work out how to use it without the manual – bring it along next time!

The next Repair Cafe will be in the reception on Saturday 13th November from 9am -12, and then every 2nd Saturday in the month (excluding December). Find out more at https://wellingboroughecogroup.org.uk/eco/repair-cafe/ or join our Repair Club on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/groups/repairclub

Thank you to Ros, Emma, Jonathan and Billy, Jessica, Judy, Freddie and Georgina, Suzanne and Niall, and Peter and Catrina. Great to see lots of Wellie Wombles working together. Thank you also to everyone who thanked us for tidying up their park and streets. Well done all!

Swap Shop at Glamis Hall

This afternoon in Glamis Hall’s Community Room, we held our first Swap Shop during Tuesday Tidy Ups. We had lots of fruit and vegetables, including tomatoes, runner beans, apples and lettuce from our Community Allotment and as always we asked people to bring what they wanted and take what they liked, it was all free!

It was or course Tuesday Tidy Ups too, so if you fancied litter picking with Wellie Wombles we were there for you! 9 bags of litter were picked today, thank you to Wellie Wombles John, Emily and Daniel, Mary, Phoebe and Penelope, and everyone else who brought in cans for our Womble Bin (lots to collect HELIPADSFORHOSPITALS !) and took part in our Wellingborough Swap Shop

Swap Shop at Animals In Need

We set up our Swap Shop at Animals in Need’s Open Day today with produce from our Community Allotment plus Judy’s chutney and gardening magazines. Everything was for swaps, we asked people to bring anything they liked and to take anything they wanted, it was all free!

We also asked people to tell us about their sustainable ideas for reuse and recycling on our ideas table; plus had an information board and leaflets for people to find out more about what we do. We had lots of people bringing and taking items, and everything that was left over was donated to Animals in Need. Thank you everyone who joined in!

Litter Picking in our Town Centre

Thank you to the 12 litter heroes who took part in our Two Hour Tidy Up of our town centre this morning. We picked 24 bags of litter, including a bag of drinks cans for our Womble Bin; plus a car tyre.

This litter pick took place between 10 and 12 and our recycling station was next to the tree on Market Street. As you can see there is a huge pile of rubbish. North Northamptonshire Council have been informed of this. Unfortunately due to this new system Wellingborough Norse could not collect it on the same day.

Thank you to Freddie and Georgina, Suzanne and Tina, Angela, Caitlin and Olivia, Tricia and John, and Emma, Jonathan and Billy. The next Two Hour Tidy Up will take place on Saturday September 25th, location to be decided, follow this blog or join Wellingborough Eco Group on Facebook, Nextdoor or Twitter and/or Wellie Wombles to find out more…

Here are some pictures to get you in the mood:

Today’s Tuesday Tidy Up was for Dylan, RIP.

Thank you to Wellie Wombles Sue and Jonathan, Liz from Glamis Hall and Rev Ben from St Mark’s Church, Wellingborough for clearing the undergrowth around the underpass from Queensway Park into Park Farm this afternoon.

We did this to make this underpass safer following the fatal stabbing last Thursday, where Dylan passed away just a few metres up the path.

15 bags were filled with brambles, grass and rubbish, for a much clearer view. Thank you Wellingborough Norse for agreeing to collect these bags. Thank you also to everyone who stopped to talk with us, to a reporter and to two police officers.

Also, at Tuesday Tidy Ups, thank you Ben, who manned the community room at Glamis Hall, where we’ve filled the Womble Bin again with drinks cans for Helipads for Hospitals, and thank you litter heroes Julie and Hayley who litter picked 3 bags from Queensway Park! 🤩
